- Vienna City & Woods Experience - visit St. Stephan's Cathedral and join the locals at a Viennese coffee house. Then drive out to Mayerling in the Vienna Woods, followed by views over the Danube and a visit to Heiligenkreuz.
- Imperial Vienna Experience - visit Schonbrunn Palace, see the crown jewels in the Royal Treasury and inspect the crypts and vaults of the Imperial Family. Lunch is included in the cellars of the Augustine monks.
Day 1 - DEPART USA.
Board your overnight flight.
Day 2 - BUDAPEST.
Welcome to Hungary! On arrival at Budapest Ferihegy International Airport, Insight's Airport Shuttle Service departs for your tour hotel at 10:30, 12:30 & 15:30. Later, join your Tour Director for a Welcome Drink.

Day 3 - BUDAPEST.
After breakfast, you are chauffeured along elegant boulevards to Heroes' Square, across the mighty Danube and up to the Citadel on Gellert Hill. Look out over the famous river dividing the city. The Castle District of Buda rises on the left, while the commercial centre of Pest occupies the flat eastern bank; the two sides linked by the famous Chain and Elizabeth Bridges. Most of the city's historic sites are located near the river so your included orientation tour concludes at the popular pedestrian shopping street of Váci utca. From here, you can plan your assault on the fine museums and monuments, churches and synagogues, historic squares and buildings. (BB)
- However, Insight's 'Budapest Experience' may be just perfect for you. Firstly, a local expert delves deeper into the city's history and culture with a special walking tour from the medieval cobblestone streets of the Castle District, to the graceful wide avenues of Pest. Along the way you'll visit Matthias Church, enjoy sweeping views from the Fisherman's Bastion and tour the exquisite Parliament building, one of the largest in Europe. Then a visit to the City Park and the world famous Gundel Restaurant to savour their renowned Gundel Palacsinta, the "King of Pancakes".
In the evening, Budapest has restaurants, bars and clubs to suit every taste. You could stop for an aperitif at a typical 'Pálinka' bar in the old city or opt for a glittering dinner cruise along the Danube. Of course, part of the fun of travel is sampling the local cuisine and there are plenty of establishments offering traditional Hungarian dishes too.
Day 4 - BUDAPEST – GYOR – VIENNA.
A fascinating drive takes you past the remains of the Roman settlement of Aquincum and along the Danube to the riverside village of Szentendre. This community has long been the haunt of artists, enchanted by its brightly coloured houses and quaint churches. Continuing eastward there is time for a visit and free orientation of the pretty town of Gyor, located on the confluence of the Danube, Rába and Rábca rivers. Although first inhabited by the Celts and Romans, the city is now noted for its baroque charm. The Austrian border and stately Vienna is only a short drive away.

Days 5 & 6 - VIENNA.
Discover the regal grandeur of Vienna over two glorious days; but first get your cameras ready for your included drive around the famous ring road. This grand boulevard, built along the lines of the old city walls, showcases many of the capital's architectural masterpieces, including the Opera House, magnificent Hofburg Imperial Residence and Parliament building. Afterwards, an included guided walk brings you to St. Stephan's Cathedral, one of Europe's great Gothic structures. From here, the Kärntnerstrasse beckons. Browse this bustling boulevard, plan your day's sightseeing at one of the renowned coffee shops and then take advantage of the vast U-Bahn network, trams and buses which will spirit you to all corners of the capital. - If you would prefer to continue with a guided tour of the Inner city then look no further. On your 'Vienna City & Woods Experience' your guide takes you inside St. Stephan's Cathedral, where you can ride the elevator (or climb the stairs) to the top of the tower. From here, you get a close-up view of the huge bell and mosaic tiled roof and views of the entire city. Back outside, get a glimpse into 19th century Vienna at one of the grand coffee houses where life wouldn't be complete without sampling 'Sachertorte', a delicious dark rich chocolate cake typically covered with glossy chocolate icing and served with whipped cream. Then take pleasure in our not-to-be-missed scenic drive through the glorious 'Vienna Woods' to Mayerling, scene of the tragic death of Crown Prince Rudolph, followed by views from a spectacular look-out over the Danube and a visit to the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz.
- Vienna owes much of its present day charm to the long reign of the Habsburgs, so on your second day in the capital you are invited to acquaint yourself with Europe's greatest ruling dynasty on our 'Imperial Vienna Experience'. You'll be dazzled by a private tour of Maria Theresa's Schonbrunn Palace and formal gardens. Next, enjoy a typical lunch in the cellars of the Augustine monks before inspecting the crypts and vaults of the Imperial Family and a look at the fabulous crown jewels in the Royal Treasury.
Night time in Vienna offers something for everyone and your Tour Director will be able to assist with ideas and information. You might like to venture out to the Vienna Woods for dinner at a typical wine tavern (Heuriger) complete with Schrammelmusik and local wine. Another alternative is a night at the theatre or opera, or simply a drink at a local tavern. Many restaurants and cafes stay open late to cater for the theatre crowd – so take your time, relax and savour what the locals call Gemutlichkeit.
Day 7 - RETURN TO USA.
Your tour ends today after breakfast. (BB).
